Brasier Freeth was instructed by Compass Group UK & Ireland Ltd, the market leader in providing contract catering and support services, to explore the possibility of reducing their exposure to business rates in relation to the 2005 Revaluation.

Following an appraisal of Compass Group’s entire portfolio, which comprised mainly of office buildings throughout England and Wales, each property’s liability was calculated and appeals were lodged against the rating assessments of properties that were considered to be over-assessed.

After extensive discussions with the VOA, Brasier Freeth was successful in realising substantial savings for Compass Group, including a 46% saving off the rateable value of a modern 44,500 sq.ft detached office building occupied by Compass Group in Uxbridge.

The total reduction in rates liability, for this building alone, over the 5 year period of the 2005 Rating List was over £1m.

Brasier Freeth has been instructed to mitigate Compass’ rates liabilities on the 2010 Rating Revaluation.
